Are you on the right path of life?
Sometimes we sit back and everything is great, perfect in our lives. We are so happy we are bursting with joy. Nothing can go wrong and everything we imagine and dream up comes true. Other times things are very hard, we think how could it get worse and then it does.
Sometimes you think why is the universe asking me to handle this situation. Why did it throw this at me now? Am I on the right path? Or do I need to listen to the signs and change direction?
I had three very close friends of mine in Barcelona have this situation happen to them. One was from Brazil and she came to Barcelona to study architecture during the economic crisis.
When she graduated every architect was out of work. She loved Barcelona, she had great friends and everything was great except no money, couldn’t get a job everything in that area of her life was a mess. So she had to move back to Brazil. When she went back everything was amazing, she got married, great job had a baby! Perfect! Joy! Now she is on her right path.
I had another friend from Sweden had the same situation. She was a painter, creative but also was lucky enough to be able to know business and work in any field. She is great at using both sides of her brain. Unfortunately her love life was in turmoil. Trying to make it work with her boyfriend of 8 years in Barcelona was a struggle for him financially so he moved back to the UK and she was a mess. She pushed me to open Yogalinda, we were going to open it together was the first initial plan. I will be honest; it was her idea for me to do it. She really didn’t want to leave her life in Barcelona, but the universe was pushing her in another direction. We both quit our jobs at the same time and she moved back to Sweden to be a painter and I became a yoga teacher. She could never earn a living as a painter in Barcelona but in Sweden people hire her to create beautiful works of art. Now her love life is fantastic married a Spanish man and has a little boy and loves her life in Sweden.
I am not saying that you need to leave the city where you live to be on the right path, as you do not. My path is here in Barcelona. I was struggling and very depressed working in sales in a crisis economy and took 2 years off to dedicate my life to Yoga and then opened a Yoga studio. It is the best thing I ever did, I don’t wake up dreading work, I jump out of bed excited about what life will bring me next. I am on the path of Dharma. Dharma is a Sanskrit word that means “purpose in life”.
Recently another friend of mine sold her business after successfully running it for 6 years in Barcelona. She just couldn’t do it any longer. The hours were long, she was always tired and she never had any free time to be with her friends and loved ones. Now she is in transition. She is not sure what her right path of work necessarily is but her path of life is having more time for herself and flexibility. She is in a transition of uncertainty. Not an easy place to be. But there is security in the unknown. “Uncertainty means stepping into the unknown in every moment of our existence. When you experience uncertainty, you are on the right path – so don’t give it up. You don’t need to have a complete and rigid idea of what you’ll be doing next week or next year, because if you have a very clear idea of what’s going to happen and you get rigidly attached to it, then you shut out a whole range of possibilities.” (Deepak Chopra) All you need to do is believe and feel that everything will work out one way or another. Listen to the signs life throws at you, really feel it.
The universe pushes until you cannot handle it any longer and then there must be a change. Either you live your life in misery or change it. There is always a choice and you just need to see the signs. Listen to your intuition and take a risk and walk into the void and unknown.
When I go back to my hometown of Toronto, Canada people think living in Barcelona is exotic and they are envious. I always say you can do it too. It’s a choice and a risk. Big risks, big reward. Bigger risks, bigger rewards. In life and business you must be willing to fail. Be ok to lose all your money on a new business venture, be ok with throwing everything into living in a new city, country or moving back to your home country. Step into the void, listen to what the signs are telling you to do and do not be afraid, just do it!
What is your path? Is a yoga teacher training in your path of life? Know your own personality and risks, listen to your signs, and intuition and follow what makes you happy. Keep the joy in your life by changing it as needed.
